Smoke warning in effect for the Peace region

Jul 20, 2026 | 5:27 AM

An orange air quality warning has been issued by Environment Canada due to wildfire smoke for all of northwestern Alberta and northeastern B.C.

According to EC the people most affected by the smoke are “people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.”

Residents may experience “eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough” symptoms, as a result.

EC does note that air quality levels will fluctuate from hour to hour.

The alert first went into effect yesterday afternoon, starting off as just a yellow air quality watch.
