Commonwealth Games start today, Grande Prairie athlete taking part

Grande Prairie’s Oliver Dawson and the rest of Team Canada are getting set to compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. 

Dawson will be part of Canada’s swim team.  Racing will start Friday, July 24. 

Dawson recently swept all three men’s breaststroke events at the Canadian Swimming Trials. 

Glasgow, Scotland, is the host city for the games. 

The opening ceremony will take place today (Thursday, July 23). It will start at 1 p.m. Alberta time.
