Race the 8, baseball, horse racing, football, rugby this weekend

Sunday starts with the Riverbend Jr Cattlemen’s Jackpot at 11:00 a.m., mutton bustin’ and wild pony races at 1:15, followed by the calf scramble, steer scramble, and wagons.

Wheatbelt Baseball League

Rycroft has advanced to the Wheatbelt Baseball League final.

The Rage beat the visiting County Brewers 13-0 Thursday night to win the South Division final 2-0.

Rycroft will play the winner of the North Division final between Peace River and Manning.

The Stampeders will be in Manning for Game 2 on Monday, July 27. That game will start at 7:15 p.m.

Peace River leads that series 1-0.

Baseball Provincials

The Grande Prairie Reds are hosting two sets of Baseball Alberta provincials this weekend at Evergreen Park.

In the 18U AA Tier 8 Championship, the Reds play Edmonton at 6:00 p.m. Friday, July 24, Fort McMurray at 9:00 a.m. and Okotoks at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.

The final is set for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 26.

In the 13U AA Tier 9 Championship, the Reds play Leduc Friday at 6:00 p.m., Sylvan Lake Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and Westlock Sunday at noon.

The title game is set for Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

Horses

Horse racing goes again on Saturday and Sunday at Evergreen Park.

Post time will be 1:15 p.m. both days.

Sunday will be Derby Day.

Football and Rugby

The Peace Country Cowboys visit the Central Alberta Buccaneers Saturday to close out the Alberta Football League regular season.

The Sirens women’s rugby team will visit the Rockers, while the Centaurs men’s team visits the Clan/Highlanders Saturday in Edmonton.

The Sirens game starts at noon. The Centaurs game starts at 1:00 p.m.
