Conviction in a murder case, six month sentence after armed break-in at a home

Conviction in Grande Prairie murder 

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie man charged with first degree murder has been convicted on a lesser charge. 

Nathan Landry was convicted of second degree murder in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench. 

The decision was rendered on July 22 after a judge-alone trial in March. 

Landry was arrested after the December 4, 2023, death of 34-year-old Brian Buchaski. 

He was found dead in Muskoseepi Park near the Westside Park area.

Jail time after armed break-in 

Alberta Justice says an MD of Smoky River man charged after an armed break-in has been given jail time. 

Brandon Kyle Neil pleaded guilty to charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer on July 15 in Fairview court. Eight other charges, including assault and robbery with a firearm, were withdrawn. 

Neil was given an 180-day  jail sentence and 12 months’ probation. 

McLennan RCMP said at the time at just after 2 a.m. on February 12, 2025, they got a report of armed suspects breaking into a home. 

Police said one woman and three men, all wearing masks, broke into the home and stole several items and two vehicles. 

Police located those vehicles, plus another one, then split up. 

A tire deflation device stopped one of the vehicles. Neil was arrested a short time later. 

RCMP did not release any information on any other suspects.
