Slave Lake returning to NWJHL after 12-year absence

The North West Junior Hockey League will be expanding next season, with the resurgence of a previously folded club.

The NWJHL says it is welcoming the Slave Lake Wolves back into the league, after they dissolved in 2014.

NWJHL President Peter Burletoff says they are ” excited to welcome the Slave Lake Wolves back into the league.”

“Their organization has put together a very enthusiastic board of directors, who have been busy hiring coaching and support staff, reaching out to the community for sponsorship and support, as well as all other day-to-day operations.”

So far, they have announced Nathan Smith will take on the head coach role, assisted by Colter Tkach and Blake Carpenter. Calvin Beauchamp will run the front office as general manager.

Their first matchup after the over-decade-long absence is set for Oct. 9 against Fort St. John.
