Wildfire Smoke

Air quality statement issued for northwestern Alberta

Aug 7, 2026 | 7:52 AM

Smoke from wildfires across British Columbia and the Northwest Territories have caused Environment Canada to issue a yellow air quality statement for the Peace Region in Alberta.

The smoke is covering the sky including the communities stretching from Grande Prairie to Peace River, and further north to Manning.

The national weather office says air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour and as smoke levels increase, health risks increase.

Environment Canada suggests to limit time outdoors and consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities, and events.
