Grande Prairie residents getting advice on how to handle increased aphid populations

The City of Grande Prairie is offering homeowners advice on how to handle increased aphid activity.

Aphids are common insects that feed on plant sap and can reproduce quickly in environments with soft plant growth following rainfall.

Residents who want their property clear of aphids can manage them by spraying affected leaves and stems with a strong water stream or removing heavily infested smaller plants.

The city says while aphids can cause curled leaves and leave a sticky residue on trees, vehicles, and sidewalks, outbreaks are temporary and generally do not threaten healthy trees.
