Vigen wins Battle of the North
The Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede wrapped up Sunday (August 9) evening with Grande Prairie native Chanse Vigen capturing the championship for the WPCA Pro Tour’s Battle of the North.
It was Vigen’s second time winning the Battle of the North Championship, with his first back in 2019. He captured the 2026 Dawson Creek crown with a penalty-free run of 1:17.13; alongside outriders Rory Gervais and Grande Prairie’s Tyler DeSutter.
Vigen’s championship run also earned him the Kirk’s Trail Tire Wheels on Fire Fast Time of the Night, with fellow finalist Jason Glass posting the second-fastest time. Tuff Dreger was third, while Wade Salmond and Jamie Laboucane split fourth and fifth on the night. All four Championship Finalists finished inside the top ten overall.
Sunday’s races were also the final opportunity for drivers to secure one of the coveted top 12 positions in the WPCA World Standings and advance to the Kirk’s Trail Tire Series playoff round at the WPCA World Finals in Rocky Mountain House. Obrey Motowylo, Jason Glass, Chanse Vigen, Jamie Laboucane, Evan Salmond, Logan Gorst, Rae Croteau Jr., Dustin Gorst, Cruise Bensmiller, Mitch Sutherland, Kurt Bensmiller, and Luke Tournier secured their playoff berths.
