Special weather statement in place for part of northwestern Alberta

Aug 10, 2026 | 1:13 PM

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for funnel clouds for a large chunk of northwestern Alberta.

The weather office says the statement covers the area east of the B.C. boundary through Woking, Donnelly, Gift Lake and Wabasca-Desmarais, then north past Manning and Chipewyan Lake.

The statement says that “conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today.”

Environment Canada says the funnel clouds would be weak and not a danger close to the ground.

The weather office says watches and warnings will be issued if the weather conditions allow for the development of tornadoes.

People are being asked to take funnel clouds seriously and get ready to seek shelter if one appears.
