Alberta RCMP shifting to navy blue uniform shirts

Alberta RCMP shared this week that its members will make a shift to navy blue uniform shirts.

They note this is part of an effort to modernize the RCMP uniform across the nation.

The change will occur starting Aug. 15.

“The RCMP understands that seeing a new uniform colour may cause confusion. The RCMP also understands that there have been recent incidents of individuals impersonating police,” officials say in a release.

“If you have any concerns about the identity of the police officer you are interacting with, you can ask the officer for identification. You can also contact your local detachment’s non-emergency line to determine if there is a police officer at your location.”

The public may still see certain members wearing the traditional grey shirts for the foreseeable future.
