GPFA wildfire danger rating downgraded to moderate
The wildfire danger rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area was downgraded over the weekend to moderate.
Firewatchers say although we’ve had warmer weather, vegetation in lots of areas continues to hold moisture; helping prevent wildfires.
A new out of control wildfire (GWF060) was detected the morning of Monday, August 31, and is approximately 0.01 hectares in size. The suspected cause is lightning and is not threatening any communities. Firefighters are fully responding to this blaze.
The fire (GWF058) near the Alberta-B.C. border, south of Township Road 700 at the end of Range Road 133, is also classified as under control and approximately 25 hectares in size.
