Alberta RCMP remove 125 suspected impaired drivers over long weekend

A total of 125 motorists were pulled over during the long weekend for alleged impaired driving.

The following Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) were issued:

  • 11 drivers received IRS 24-hour suspensions;
  • 26 drivers received IRS WARNS;
  • 85 drivers received IRS FAILS; and
  • Three novice drivers/commercial drivers were removed for IRS ZEROS.

“Every road fatality is avoidable,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services.

“Everyone should have been able to make it home safely this past weekend. If someone is about to drive impaired or make an unsafe choice behind the wheel, speak up. A simple conversation can save a life.” 

Additionally, 1,125 traffic violation tickets were issued, including 576 for speeding, 24 for distracted driving, and 21 for seatbelt infractions.

There were three injury collisions and two fatal collisions during the enforcement period, including two fatalities.
