New curling teams playing this weekend

Curling fans are getting a look at some new teams at events this weekend. 

Nampa’s Kayla Skrlik and her new foursome are playing at the Oakville Tankard in Oakville, Ontario. 

The new rink includes third Myla Plett, second Sarah Koltun, and lead Samantha Fisher. 

They are taking on the Sarah Daniels foursome from New Westminster Friday morning at 6:30 Alberta time.  

Also at this event, Beaverlodge’s Geoff Walker is playing lead with his new team skipped by Brendan Bottcher. Jake Horgan will play third; Tanner Horgan is the second.

At the Saville Shootout in Edmonton, Sexsmith’s Jaxon Hiebert will skip his own team. It is based in Edmonton and includes third Noah Mason-Wood, second Nate Burton, and lead Braeden Hein. 

Fort St. John’s Sterling Middleton is playing third with the Matthew Hall rink from Victoria. 

Kevin Koe is skipping a team that includes new third Johnson Tao, second Aaron Sluchinski and lead Karrick Martin. 

Dawson Creek’s Jason Ginter is playing second on a team skipped by Evan van Amsterdam. It is based in Edmonton. 

Al but Hiebert will play in the first draw at 9 a.m. Friday. Hall takes on Jacob Libbus from Okotoks, Koe plays Mike Lambert from Edmonton, and van Amsterdam will face Vernon’s Jim Cotter. 

Hiebert’s rink will play its first game at 7 p.m. Friday against the Benny Kapp team from Germany. 

The Oakville Tankard and the Saville Shootout will both run through Sunday.
