Northern Gateway Public Schools

Local Bachelor of Education available through NWP

Northwestern Polytechnic and Northern Gateway Public Schools have entered a new partnership in hopes of addressing northern teacher recruitment and retention issues.

NWP and NGPS signed a Letter of Understanding to support a remote group of students in NWP’s Bachelor of Education program; giving local youth “greater access to an NWP teaching degree.”

The program started earlier this month and will use a combination of in-person and remote courses at NGPS facilities, including practicums in local Northern Gateway classrooms.

NWP Vice President Academic Dr. Jodi Schultz says the polytechnic is “proud to work with Northern Gateway Public Schools to create new opportunities in the North,” as rural communities in the region face even greater challenges with recruitment and retention,” making locally accessible education pathways particularly important.”

“By bringing together post-secondary education and classroom experience, we can support aspiring teachers while responding to an important workforce challenge in our region.”
