Province searching for post-secondary students to take part in focus group

The Government of Alberta has launched a student focus group for current post-secondary students and recent graduates.

The purpose of the group is to gather input as the province considers recommendations from the expert panel on post-secondary institution funding.

The participants in the focus group will get the opportunity to share their perspectives on subjects such as on-campus learning environments, freedom of expression, institutional neutrality and student conduct processes.

Participant feedback will help inform the government’s consideration of recommendations in these areas.

Those interested in providing feedback must currently be attending a publicly funded post-secondary institution in Alberta or have graduated from one in 2016 or later.

Per the province, some of the topics they’ll explore include:

Whether students feel able to ask questions, share different viewpoints and participate fully in classroom discussions and academic work.
Exposure to a range of ideas and perspectives in courses, programs and campus communities.
Confidence in institutional support for lawful expression, academic freedom, campus events and a range of viewpoints.
Experiences with student conduct processes, including whether the processes were clear, timely, fair and appropriately supported.

The deadline to express interest in participating is Sept. 30. The focus group will take place between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8.
