A quarter of Quebec voters cast early ballots with six days to go before election day

MONTREAL — Close to a quarter of eligible Quebec voters have already cast their ballot with six days left before election day.

Élections Québec says 23.6 per cent of voters participated in advance polling, including polls on school campuses and retirement homes.

Advance polls were open on Sunday and Monday.

Candidates have six days left to pitch the remaining voters ahead of election day on Oct. 5.

Coalition Avenir Québec Leader Christine Fréchette was on the defensive on Monday after warning last week that American officials might try to support the sovereigntist Parti Québecois to weaken Canada.

Fréchette walked back those warnings on Friday, but the controversy has continued to ruffle her party’s campaign.
