"Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging is a Superpower"

County of GP Fire Prevention Weeks kicks off this weekend

Oct 2, 2026 | 6:04 AM

The County of Grande Prairie’s Fire Prevention Week “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging is a Superpower” starts Saturday, Oct. 3, with this year’s focus on lithium-ion battery safety.

As part of this initiative, seven events will be held across County fire halls all next week, educating residents on the importance of proper charging, storage and disposal.

County Fire Chief Trevor Grant says as “Lithium-ion batteries are part of our daily lives, Fire Prevention Week is an opportunity for everyone to learn how to use these devices safely and protect their families.”

“Using manufacturer-approved chargers, avoiding damaged batteries and keeping batteries away from extreme temperatures can significantly reduce the risk of fire.”

The first of the public education sessions will take place tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 3) at the Dunes Fire Hall on 93 Street, from 1 -3 p.m.

More information on lithium-ion batteries and Fire Prevention Week can be found on the County’s website.
