GPES removed seven drivers & handed out over 200 tickets Thanksgiving weekend

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services joined the Alberta RCMP in a national traffic-safety campaign, #OperationImpact2026, over the Thanksgiving long weekend.

GPES says it issued 223 tickets throughout the weekend, including 137 for speeding; of those speeding tickets, 80 were handed out on Friday, Oct. 9, in school zones.

Additionally, GPES worked with local police to remove two impaired drivers, two suspended drivers, and one resident operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Enforcement Services also took one driver into custody, as a traffic stop revealed they were wanted on two outstanding warrants.

Now, GPES is using this opportunity to “remind motorists that unsafe driving behaviours remain a leading factor in serious collisions.”

“Road safety is a shared responsibility; whether it’s speeding, driving distracted, failing to wear a seatbelt, or driving while impaired, choosing to take unnecessary risks can have serious and lasting consequences. Making safe, responsible choices every time you get behind the wheel helps protect everyone who uses our roads,” according to Peace Officer Sergeant Ryan Hoffman.
