The Grande Prairie police transition takes place today, Oct. 21, 2026

Effective today, the Grande Prairie Police Service will assume all city jurisdiction policing duties previously performed by the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment.

Following the recent graduation of their fourth recruit class and 7th and 8th experienced officer programs, GPPS will be initially operating with over 80 sworn officers.

Grande Prairie RCMP officers are relocating to the new RCMP detachment in Clairmont.

A ceremony to mark the transition will take place at Bonnets Energy Centre today at 1:00 p.m.
