GP & District Chamber of Commerce reacts to Monday’s referendum
The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce has released a statement following the results of Monday’s (Oct. ten-question referendum:
The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce, aligned with the Alberta Chambers of Commerce, has remained neutral on the question of separation. Our focus has been on understanding the economic consequences of political uncertainty, supported by research highlighting the impacts on business planning, investment, jobs and confidence.
Albertans have now provided a clear answer on Question 10, and we respect that democratic decision.
Our priority remains advocating for the conditions that businesses need to succeed, including reducing interprovincial trade barriers, creating a predictable regulatory environment, and strengthening Alberta’s reputation as a great place to invest, grow and do business.
Votes were still being counted as early as this morning (Thursday, Oct. 22), with some of the majorities now flipping to “no” regarding other questions on the referendum not involving separation.
However, a strong turnout for staying in Canada remains, with roughly 75 per cent of the votes.
