West Fraser reports third quarter loss

Oct 30, 2026 | 6:00 AM

West Fraser Timber Ltd. says it recorded an $80 million loss in the third quarter.

President and CEO Sean McLaren says in a news release that demand for wood is soft because of housing affordability.

McLaren also says West Fraser saw energy prices go up in Quarter 3.

The release also says it is stopping production indefinitely at an OSB plant in Alabama and a lumber mill in Arkansas.

This will reduce production by 500 million square feet of OSB and 225 million board feet of lumber every year.

West Fraser also owns the OSB plant located south of Grande Prairie.
