Grizzly bear vs. black bears a rare sight: AB Fish and Wildlife
A video (below) of a grizzly bear digging at a black bear den and preying on a cub is being called “normal behaviour” by Alberta Fish and Wildlife.
Spokesperson Brendan Cox says although it is not out of the ordinary, it is rare to hear about a specific incident.
“When it does happen, it is usually a case of a larger adult bear preying on a cub,” he says.
“Grizzly bears are typically larger and much more powerful than a black bear. But, bears, in general, are very opportunistic hunters, they will eat anything that is available to them. Even other bears in some instances.”
