Notley talks budget, pipelines during Grande Prairie visit
Premier Rachel Notley dropped a hint when asked about the upcoming provincial budget during her visit to Grande Prairie Friday.
“Grande Prairie is the youngest city, pretty much, in the province. There is tremendous growth. The city has been looking for another school, and so I would certainly urge folks in Grande Prairie to watch the budget on Thursday.”
Notley says the budget will focus on diversification, the recovery of the economy, and maintaining stable public services.
She was also asked about the Trans Mountain Pipeline.
Notley says Alberta cooperating with the federal government’s climate change plan was tied to this pipeline getting built. She adds she is still confident that will happen.
“On behalf of the Province of Alberta, we have to do everything we can to get that pipeline built. Quite frankly, it’s not about just standing up for Alberta, it ultimately is about standing up for all Canadians.”
She says Alberta will fight back if B.C. gets its case against the pipeline heard in court.
“In every single forum, every single legal setting that has existed since this pipeline has been proposed since our government has been elected, we have sought standing, secured standing and made representations on behalf of the people of Alberta about why it’s so important to our economy.”
