Mar 19, 2018 | 11:33 AM

A Grande Prairie man has been arrested and charged after a St. Patrick’s Day police chase.

On Saturday afternoon around 4:30, police tried to arrest a man who was reportedly consuming alcohol in a parked vehicle at a liquor store near 100 Avenue.

Officers say the man became violent and fled and a chase ensued.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a truck on Kateri Drive but kept going.

Police then located the vehicle in a parking lot on the south side of town.

The driver once again did not stop, and this time he almost hit a police car head-on.

The chase proceeded eastbound on 84th Avenue and then southbound on Resources Road and westbound on 68th Avenue.

A tire deflation device was deployed but even it couldn’t stop the vehicle.

The vehicle finally came to a stop near the Bear Creek Ball Diamonds when it lost control and slid into a snowbank.

But, the suspect wasn’t about to give up just yet. According to police, he climbed out of the sunroof of his vehicle and aggressively confronted officers.

There was a brief altercation and finally, a suspect was taken into custody.

47-year-old Steven Williams faces the following charges:

Obstruct Police Officer x5
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle over 80 mg %
Assault on Police Officer
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Operation of a Motor Vehicle while being pursued by Police

Williams is scheduled to appear in court today.  Police say no one was injured in the incident.
