Lawyers for Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman (wah-KEEN’ el CHAH’-poh gooz-MAHN’) say they’re disappointed a judge won’t dismiss his New York drug trafficking case.
El Chapo was transported from Mexico to New York in January to face charges he oversaw a multibillion-dollar international drug trafficking operation that laundered money and oversaw murders and kidnappings. His lawyers say the U.S. government charged him with different crimes after he was en route to the U.S.
