Major pet adoption event Saturday

This Saturday a major adoption event is being held for both Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue and In the Woods Animal Rescue.

Erin Lafond, the organizer for the Animal Adoption Extravaganza says there are lots of animals without homes at both rescues and they’re looking to get some of them adopted out to families of their own before the snow flies.  Some of these animals need to find loving homes.

“They are abandoned, they’re neglected, they’re strays, they’re abused, they’re in awful condition,” Lafond explained is the case many times these animals are brought into the shelter.  “(The shelters) get lots of pregnant mamas that are starving to death and have a belly full of puppies. Some of the stuff they see is really heart-wrenching.  What they do is nothing short of miraculous for these animals.”

In the Woods currently has 176 cats and 67 puppies and a number of dogs, while Bandaged Paws has 80 cats and 15 dogs.

If you can’t adopt a pet right now, but still want to help, Lafond says cash donations are always appreciated as they can use the money for vet bills.  They are also in need of wet cat food, wet dog food, puppy chow, cat litter, and cleaning supplies.

The Animal Adoption Extravaganza is Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Distribution Now building at 11489 – 95 Avenue in Grande Prairie. There’s also a silent auction, a pet photo booth, carnival games, and beef on a bun BBQ.
