Oct 24, 2018 | 7:12 AM

A Palliative Care Conversations Community Conference is taking place Thursday in the city.

It is the first time the conference will be held here, and the Grande Prairie Hospice Palliative Care Society’s Executive Director Brenda Finch says concerns and issues will be discussed.

“So, this is a mainly information for families and caregivers and people that maybe have a terminal diagnosis to get information. It’s to understand the system and how to navigate through the system, where are the entry points? How do you get into these entry points if you need to?”

This conference, themed Compassionate Communities: Starting the Conversation, is also for healthcare professionals.

“We haven’t had a lot of opportunity to attend local events, normally we have to go to Edmonton to get these caliber of speakers, so we look forward to maybe offering another conference in the spring as well.”

Also speaking will be Bonnie Tompkins, the Compassionate Communities lead and Dr Srini Chary a Palliative Care Physician Consultant.

The last time this conference ran was in 2013.
