Oct 23, 2018 | 6:19 AM

A bus could soon be connecting residents in Sexsmith and Clairmont to Grande Prairie.

The town of Sexsmith has come onboard and Phase One of the Rural Transportation Pilot Program is expected to launch soon after a motion is passed by County of Grande Prairie council next Monday.

“We’re looking forward to having the service up and running for the communities to access,” said Coree Ladwig, Rural Transportation Pilot Program Project Lead. “We are currently working with the project partners to finalize all the details including the specific launch date, bus stops, times, fare rates and SUPERPASS purchase locations.”

The operational cost of $384,000 for the bus pilot will be funded by the Alberta Transportation Rural Transportation Pilot Program as well as through the Green Trip grant program.

Phase two will expand to connect Beaverlodge, Wembley and Hythe shortly after Phase One is complete according to the county.
