County of Grande Prairie to begin property re-inspections today

Assessors in the County of Grande Prairie are to begin property re-inspections today in Ranges five, six and seven of Township 70, 71 and 72, excluding the hamlet of Clairmont. The inspections will continue until further notice.

The purpose of the inspections is to keep County records up to date on each property. Things such as improvements (renovations and alterations), additions and new buildings are what assessors will be looking for during the inspections.

“Basically, what they’re looking for is to make sure that anything that has been put on the property since the last time they went through has been captured in our system,” said Director of Corporate Services Dawn Sauve. “Whether that is through the development permit process or through the re-inspection process.”

Inspection of properties is a standard policy the provincial government has put in place. The purpose of which is to reflect the estimated market value of a given property, which is then reflected on the owner’s property taxes. By provincial mandate, all municipalities must perform re-inspections of properties every five years.

Assessors will be going door-to-door visiting each property and can be identified by a photo identification badge. If property owners are not home at the time of inspection, a notice will be left at the door with information on how to contact the County’s Assessment department.
