The 2022 Arctic Winter Games will be going to Fort McMurray,
It beat out Grande Prairie for the right to host the circumpolar north.
Local Bid Committee organizers say in a statement that thank the people in this area who supported the bid and that it was an honour to showcase the city to the International Committee.
The statement also says local people thought they put together a “thoughtful bid and a powerful tour” and that, while disappointed to not be picked, they wish the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo well as it prepares to play host.
The next version of the Arctic Winter Games will be held in 2020 in Whitehorse.
