Weyerhaeuser looking for input, questions from the public
Weyerhaeuser will be meeting with the public five times over the next couple weeks.
People from the Grande Prairie sawmill will be at a series of open houses to talk about the company’s Strategic Forest Management Plan.
Strategic Forest Planner Traci Carter says this is updated every 10 years and looks ahead to the next two centuries.
“This plan does give us a 20-year sequence of where our forest model tells us that we can harvest and our operational plans, our annual plans, are based off of this plan.”
She adds the public is invited to come out and ask questions.
“A very important part of developing this Forest Management Plan is to get input from the public of what they would like to see, what their questions are, what their concerns are. Any sort of input in forest management planning is what we’re looking for.”
They also want to hear about what the public is interested in.
“The public is recreational users, people who work on the FMA. It encompasses all of those people of those interest levels. So, that is what we’re looking for is what are they interested in, what are they concerned with, what are they seeing out there, what do they want to learn more about why we do things the way we do.”
The schedule for the open houses is:
Monday, February 11 4 pm to 7 pm Eastlink Centre
Wednesday, February 13 11 am to 2 pm Beaverlodge Farmers Market
Thursday, February 14 11 am to 2 pm Saddle Hills County office
Wednesday, February 20 5 pm to 8 pm Nitehawk (club room)
Thursday, February 21 11 am to 2 pm Grande Cache, Eagles Nest Hall
