School’s out, watch for kids: Enforcement Services

Jul 3, 2018 | 6:39 AM

School is out for the summer and even though school speed zones are not in effect for the next couple of months, children will be outside more enjoying parks and playgrounds, and this includes playgrounds at local schools.

Ross Gear with Enforcement Services says motorists should keep this in mind.

“We have to be careful about our young people when they’re riding bikes, make sure we give them lots of room,” he said. “With school now out, it’s very possible that the playgrounds will still be used a lot, so drivers are encouraged to slow down, watch the speed limit in playground zones.”

The school zones speed limit of 30 km/hr will be in effect again in September.

Playground speed zones are in place every day of the year during daylight hours.  The speed limit in playgrounds is 30 km/hr.

“It only takes a few seconds to slow down and it’s certainly worthwhile because we want to keep our young people safe,” added Gear.
