GPPL hosting LibriCon Saturday

Die-hard devotees of all things pop culture will gather at the Grande Prairie Public Library tomorrow for the 5th annual LibriCon.
 
Emerging Technologies Librarian Charlotte Anderson says the Library calls this its fan convention.
 
“It’s for lovers of comic books, sci-fi, fantasy, TV shows, graphic novels, Manga, video games, DVDs, movies, etcetera. So, if you love something, we would love to have you here.
 
She adds this is a day full of activities.
 
“We have contests running, including our cos-play fashion show. People come dressed in costumes of their favourite characters and compete in age groups, so it’s ages 12 and under, teens, and adults.”
 
Best selling Canadian writer E.K. Johnston will be at the fifth annual LibriCon as well. Anderson says she has a connection to the Peace.
 
“There are scenes (in one of her books) that are in Grande Prairie, so that is The Story of Owen series, I believe it is the second book that has scenes in Grande Prairie. She’s (also) done a Star Wars book called Star Wars: Ahsoka.”
 
Anderson says Johnston is from Ontario, but worked around here for a while and got some inspiration for The Story of Owen series in this area.
 
LibriCon will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Grande Prairie Public Library.
