Man charged after three complaints of inappropriate touching
Grande Prairie RCMP have charged a 55-year-old man after three female students from a Swan City school reported that they had been inappropriately touched by the Vice Principal at their school.
RCMP did not say which school was involved, only that it is in the Grande Prairie Public School district.
Police say the alleged incidents took place late in the 2017-18 school year and that all three reports came in June 1.
Raymond Sylvester is facing sexual assault charges. He is due in court August 22 after being arrested June 27.
District superintendent Sandy McDonald has issued the following statement,
“The safety of our students is always the top priority in the Grande Prairie Public School District. We have recently learned that an employee of our District has been formally charged with what can only be described as extremely serious criminal offences.
In the interests of maintaining confidentiality regarding employee matters and permitting the legal process to move forward appropriately, the District is only able to comment to a limited extent and is not able to comment specifically on the charges. I can confirm the employee is not currently rendering active service and has not been since May 31, 2018.
