Dec 4, 2017 | 10:25 AM

HIV North is putting on a Supervised Consumption Services information session Tuesday at the Grande Prairie Regional College.

Executive Director Melissa Byers says there will be community experts on hand to answer any questions or address concerns.

“We are going to focus on the Needs Assessment that we completed in Grande Prairie so we will give local data indicating the need for Supervised Consumption Services in Grande Prairie. With that we are going to explore concerns, we are going to explore questions. We are also going to talk about harm reduction, what harm reduction is, how it’s effective,[and] what it looks like in the local community.”

She says the last couple of weeks in November, they know of at least 20 opioid poisonings.

“What we want to do is start planting the seeds in the community about Supervised Consumption Services and hear community concerns.”

Byers says they hope to have more of these gatherings in the new year.

The information session is from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. in room D208.
