Supervised consumption services vehicle to be part of HIV North open house
Anyone interested can have a look at HIV North’s mobile consumption services vehicle Monday.
The organization is hosting an open house at Revolution Place.
Sarah Boxall, HIV North’s Director of Supervised Consumption Services, is hoping that getting a chance to see it will alleviate some concerns people have about something like this operating in Grande Prairie.
“We invite everyone to come down with their questions and we’re hoping to provide information and education and make this something the community appreciates.”
She is also hoping people will learn something by seeing the vehicle.
“We’re hoping to provide a medical perspective (on) supervised consumption services and how supervised consumption services work to save lives and reduce overdoses.”
Boxall says they do not yet have a start date yet for when the vehicle will be in operation, adding their application to Health Canada is at what she calls “the decision-making stage.”
That open house will run from 3 to 6 p.m. A substance abuse support trade show will take place at the same time. Boxall says several local agencies will be there to talk about the supports and services they provide.
