Local film and advertising company wins $20k in funding

A local film and advertising company has won a competition for funding through TELUS Storyhive.

C.I.A. Solutions was one of the 30 winners of the indigenous directors’ competition for their project called LOST.

The film is about a reformed Indigenous gang member released on parole who has to make tough decisions to help his family.

The company’s CEO Len Morisette says the project has been in the works for about six months, and he’s excited that it was chosen out of about 200 other submissions.

“It looked promising, and then boom, we were one of the winners,” says Morisette. “I was beside myself. Just to be acknowledged on that. They had around 200 entries and to be in the top 30 in both provinces, (Alberta and BC) I’m pretty happy.”

Morisette says about 12 people were involved with the project. He notes the idea for LOST has been something he’s wanted to work on for a long time.

“It’s been in my head for years. Just forming it from my own life experiences. So in the last, I would say six months for sure, it was rattling around and then we just saw the opportunity with TELUS and I was finally able to pull the trigger on it.”

C.I.A. Solutions was one of 30 Indigenous filmmakers who received $20,000 in funding.

“There is a strong filming presence in northern Alberta, but we’re really pioneering the commercial filming and we just see it keep growing. But now as a company we’re going to start looking at projects where we can tell more stories. We usually do corporate stuff, commercials, branding and all that stuff, now we want to get into true storytelling on short-films and films and this is definitely a step in the right direction.”
