Calls to Report-a-John line down

Dec 3, 2017 | 9:59 AM

There have been fewer calls into the Report-a-John hotline at Grande Prairie Crime Prevention.

Community Enhancement Facilitator Kristi Lea says they have noticed calls have been more than cut in half with just over 20 calls in the last year and 54 the year before.

She attributes this to less advertising in the community but encourages people to call if they see “john” activity.

“John activity is described as anyone who propositions a prostitute or pays for sexual services, repeated drive-bys on a location for sexual services, slowing down to observe or talk to a prostitute, dropping off or parking and watching”

“We supply that information back to the RCMP with license plate number, so it is very important to have details when you are calling the Report-a-John line.  Licence plate, make/model, time, location, and description of the individual who you see.  We take that information, and a registered letter is sent back to the owner of the vehicle as well”

The number for the Report-a-John line is 780-830-7077.
