Canola farmers come together in support of Alberta’s food banks
For a second year, the province’s canola farmers will be donating to Alberta’s food banks and school snack programs.
“We produce a run of specially-labelled canola oil every year for promotional purposes and we’ve expanded that program now to include products for donations to the food banks and school snack programs in Alberta,” explained Greg Sears with the Alberta Canola Producers Commission.
Sears says food banks get lots of pasta and peanut butter in their donation bins, but sometimes other cooking essentials aren’t there.
“A cooking oil of some form is a staple in anybody’s kitchen. Canola oil is locally produced, it’s healthy and it comes right from the back yard of people on the Peace Country. It’s really a great thing for us to be able to provide to the food banks and other programs in Alberta.”
