Sidewalk construction underway in Grande Prairie

Jun 15, 2018 | 1:31 PM

The City of Grande Prairie has started its Sidewalk Rehabilitation Program.

Engineering Services project sponsor Jill McCord says over a dozen sidewalks will be fixed.

“We run one large program, it’s around 20 different sites. We break it into sites for ease of construction and construction tracking with our contractor.”

The project’s budget is $2.75 million, with each section taking roughly two weeks to complete.

The maintenance of sidewalks is something that is done on a year to year basis.

“Every year the City runs a sidewalk program. We put out a contract for that work to be done. We are trying to work on improving the overall walkability of the City and the sidewalk network,” she said.

Nearly 30 projects are on the list in 2018.

Construction on sidewalks includes replacing and upgrading the sidewalk concrete and asphalt pathways to the standard width of 1.5 meters.

McCord adds work has started in the Crystal Ridge area and will continue throughout the Grande Prairie.

” By Swanavon School, 100 St., Highland Park, and one in Mission.”

Construction is set to be completed by September.
