Grande Prairie man facing firearms charges

An 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police were called to a residence in the south end of the city last week to reports of a man with a gun making threats. 

RCMP received the complaint Thursday afternoon at around 1:45 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect tried to run. Collin Strand was arrested and taken into custody with help from Police Dog Services. 

A search warrant was executed on the house and weapons and ammunition were seized. 

Strand is facing 12 Criminal Code offences:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
  • Extortion without firearm
  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Uttering threats
  • Forcible confinement
  • Mischief

He is set to appear in court today (February 26).
