City looking to contribute $20K to alleyway art project
The city is looking at providing money for a Downtown Association pilot project.
The association will be orchestrating the installation of art and murals on the back-side of interested businesses on 100 Avenue between 98 Street and 102 Street.
If approved on Tuesday, October 9, the city would contribute $20,000 to the DTA for the project. DTA Executive Director Wendy Bosch says, in this day and age, social media plays a big role in the shopping experience.
“I think it is going to draw so many people downtown. An interactive piece does so much for people coming into the area and enjoying what they see,” she says.
The city funding comes with a matching requirement. Half of each project would receive up to $5,000.
A committee will be created to make decisions on what will make the final cut. Although there were hopes to have paintings up this year, the weather has pushed the completion date to July 1, 2019.
The city would get the money from the Downtown Rehabilitation Project communications fund.
