737 ban not impacting Grande Prairie Airport

Mar 14, 2019 | 5:30 AM

The federal government’s decision to ground Boeing 737 Max 8 and 9 jets should not have any impact on the Grande Prairie Airport.

“Because we have turboprop aircraft here, that ban has not affected us at all,” says Director of Operations Doug Mark.

He is not expecting any impacts either.

“For the airport locally, no, we don’t. I would advise people to contact their individual carriers to see if it affects them at all.”

Transport Minister Marc Garneau announced the decision Wednesday.

The aircraft has been linked to a couple of recent crashes, including one on the weekend in Africa where 18 Canadians were among the 157 people killed.

Mark adds there has been no indication of how long the 737s will remain grounded.
