Province gives $210,000 for Tri-Municipal Industrial Partnership

Nov 23, 2017 | 12:05 PM

The province has provided $210,000 in grant funding for the Tri-Municipal Industrial Partnership.

Mayor Bill Given was joined by Councillor Bob Marshall and MD of Greenview Reeve Dale Gervais in Calgary this morning for the announcement.

“(This partnership) is intended to increase economic diversity by providing a stable, predictable environment for international investment in a liquids-rich Montney formation in our province,” said Given.

It is also part of the second round of funding given through the Community and Regional Economic Support (CARES) Program in 2017.

This was among 50 initiatives announced during the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association annual convention by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Deron Bilous.

“Every region of Alberta strengthens the overall diversity of our provincial economy in industries like energy, agriculture, forestry, mining, tourism and others,” said Minister Bilous.

“Local leaders know best how to build on their communities’ economic strengths. That’s why we will continue supporting them.”

The facility will see the Municipal District of Greenview, County of Grande Prairie, and the City of Grande Prairie work together to build up the area south of Grande Prairie.

Through the CARES program, the 50 projects have received more than $4 million in funding. There are currently already 61 projects receiving $5 million from the first intake in the program.

The third intake is open for applications now and will run until Nov. 30, 2017.
