A former City of Grande Prairie fire chief who took a job in Strathcona County last year will be making his way back to the Peace Region.

Dan Lemieux has accepted the role as the County of Grande Prairie’s Community Services Director.

“Dan is a visionary leader with 25 years of senior management experience in municipal government,” said County of Grande Prairie CAO Bill Rogan. “He knows our region, he’s highly-respected and community-minded, and he’ll bring a lot of strategic foresight and expertise to our current initiatives and future plans.”

Lemieux was with the city for 27 years before spending the last year as Director of Emergency Services and Fire Chief for Strathcona County.

“I have had an extensive career working in several areas of municipal government,” said Lemieux. “I am really looking forward to this new leadership opportunity and being able to put my experience into practice at the County of Grande Prairie,” said Lemieux.

He will start in his new position on August 7th and will take over from current director Kathleen Turner.

In a news release, the county says “Lemieux will be responsible for leadership and daily operations of five County departments, working with the teams from Agriculture, Regional Enforcement Services, Family and Community Support Services, Regional Fire Service, and Parks and Recreation.”
