Sex Trade Offender Program in Grande Prairie

Mar 9, 2018 | 5:37 AM

A Sex Trade Offender Program will run in Grande Prairie for the first time.

Chief Crown Prosecutor Steven Hinkley says Saturday’s course, also referred to as John School, works as an out of court diversion process.

“So this will be a full day of hearing powerful stories from persons who have actually been in and left the sex trade, from legal, from police, from myself as to what the real effects both for them and to society as a whole are.”

A stakeholder committee decided to hold STOP in Grande Prairie following the 4-day prostitution investigation this past fall that resulted in the arrest of 35 people.

“And the committee and then going to re-meet next week, look at how we did, look at how we can improve and continue on a quarterly basis. The Edmonton course actually allows for people who are not charged, who simply think they may benefit from it to take it, we simply haven’t expanded to that yet.”
