Body believed to be missing boy found in Peace River

Jul 12, 2018 | 11:47 AM

RCMP say a body discovered on the Peace River is believed to be that of a two-year-old boy who went missing near the Canfor Bridge last Friday.

Earlier today, Peace River RCMP were called to a bridge that was under construction on the Peace River off 94 Street in the Town of Peace River.

“We were notified around 9:30 this morning that a body had been recovered in Peace River earlier today,” said Constable Melanie McIntosh with the Grande Prairie RCMP.  “The body was found by construction workers working on a construction berm near the Peace River.”

The body was found approximately 220 KM away from where the boy was last seen.

“The body has been tentatively identified and we believe it is that of the missing child. RCMP have been in contact with the family and our thoughts remain with them during this time,” said McIntosh.

Since last Friday, the search efforts have consisted of a number of agencies from the region and surrounding area. RCMP boats and a dive team, STARS helicopter, a private aircraft, and volunteers helped for countless hours trying to find the little boy.

RCMP say their thoughts continue to be with the family at this time.

There is no indication as to when the identity of the body will be confirmed.
