TransCanada active in the Peace Region

Jul 30, 2018 | 7:51 AM

TransCanda Pipelines says it has ‘quite a bit of activity” going on in the Peace Region.

The company is making a $7.2 Billion expansion to its Nova Gas Transmission system.

Matthew John Senior Communications Specialist with TransCanada says the Duvernay and Montney gas plays makes this area attractive.

“North Montney there is a lot of activity to be going on and we are working with stakeholders as well shippers to ensure that they have the pipeline capacity to get the products to market both domestic and export.”

John says the Nova system expansion should be done in 2021. There are also five new pipelines being built in the MD of Greenview that should be complete next year.

“A lot of our focus is hiring local and hiring diverse businesses and that includes veteran-owned businesses, Indigenous owned businesses as well as locally owned businesses so there will be considerable opportunity that way. As well, a great boost in taxes and economic activity on the area.”

Also, John says work needed to abandon a pipeline will start in August. The National Energy Board has already approved plans to abandon the company’s Peace River Mainline

The part of the line within Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation will be dug up while the rest of the old line will stay where it is.
