HIV North team gaining knowledge at conference in Edmonton

Oct 5, 2018 | 11:35 AM

Staff at HIV North Society are in Edmonton for a three-day conference collecting information to bring back to our area.

Stimulus 2018 wraps up today and Executive Director Melissa Byers says they attend this type of event every year.

“It is really focused on harm reduction. Our whole team is here learning about harm reduction movements across the country, grassroots movements, peer movements, evidence-based practices and policy,” says Byers.

The information gathered will help the team better explain what and why they are doing things, she says.

“We are hoping to bring a lot of information back about what is going on around the country. (What is happening) with supervised consumption services and overdose prevention services.”

Although there isn’t a set date for the mobile Supervised Consumption Site to arrive in the Swan City yet, Byers says the aim is to have it delivered in mid-November
