U of A researchers compile ‘funny’ words list

Nov 28, 2018 | 6:35 AM

University of Alberta researchers have done a deep dive into language and conclude some terms make people laugh due to their combination of sound and meaning.

They found words likely to get a chuckle tend to be associated with sex, bodily functions, good times, animals and insults.

Psychologist Chris Westbury says after analyzing 45,000 words, they came up with a Top 10 list of funny ones.

On the list is upchuck, bubby, boff, wriggly, yaps, giggle, cooch, guffaw, puffball and jiggly.
